If you need a book that provides a clear, cogent and coherent discussion on database development in the Filemaker environment, this is the book and perhaps series to buy. Well laid out with clear direction, this books eschews the folksy, dim witty approach of the Missing Manual series. It provides answers to your questions and procedures for developing a usable database.
Be aware, you are not going to build a complex database in a day or two. But with this text you can build that database and understand what you are doing and understand why you should do it in a certain manner. And when you need to come back to it the database and modify it or add features, you will be happy you have this book as a reference.
I previously purchased Filemaker Pro 14, The Missing Manual, O'Reilly but learned that the Missing Manual was also missing a cogent and coherent structure making that text completely and utterly useless. Came back to Amazon and looked for something from Apress and found this text. Oh and Filemaker is one royal pain in the posterior. I understand why it's popular It's Apple! The advantage of this book over the MM one is this one does not gloss over important concepts entity relationships or deride "database big shots" actual text found on pg of the MM but presents them in a manner that savvy users understand how Filemaker is performing vital and necessary functions.
The best book, bar none I've ever read on the topic. I found this book to be positively outstanding. Trying to cover the topic of FileMaker comprehensively is no small challenge, I'm sure. The author has done this, all the while being an easy read along your journey. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who want so learn the ins and outs of FileMaker or expand their already existing knowledge of this truly one of a kind product.
This book is without any doubts is the most informative and comprehensive FileMaker book out there ever since. Is a great source for those who are pursueing a FileMaker Certification and very helpfuel as well for those who wants to develop FileMaker sulotions, and will defently add to their knowledge.
Thank you Mr. Mark for the great book! This book is incredibly an incredibly comprehensive reference for FileMaker Pro I taught myself the program in order to make a database for personal use and this book was with me the entire way - it is written in an easy to follow manner, which was great.
I could not have done it without Learn FileMaker Pro Kudos to the author who is also very active in forums and user groups. If I could give it six stars, I would. Learn Filemaker Pro 16 gave my career and my skills as a developer a jump start.

At the end of the book you don't have a finished solution or anything like that. There are a few try me things at the start but in my opinion should be making a solution through the book, showing examples and how best to do things. Report abuse. Suitable for beginners to professionals there really is something for everyone in this huge book. At well over pages it has all the information you need to create solutions using FileMaker including for IPad and mobile connections to your databases. Superb and well recommended.
